Teaching
Duties. I taught an innovative
critical thinking course that prepares students for success in college
and afterward. My article, Developmental Critical Thinking:
Melding Two Imperatives, described the course. My students used
a text/workbook I wrote and revised:
Creating Knowledge:
Inquiry-Based Critical Thinking. My article, Developmental
Freshmen as Creators of Knowledge, described my innovative method
of teaching Inquiry-Based Critical Thinking.

Advising
Duties. Each semester,
I advised 70 students on meeting their developmental requirements and on
choosing their courses.

Research
Interests. My most recent
research interests included performing publishable research pertaining
to critical thinking curricula and materials, standardized critical thinking
tests, and the articulation of developmental requirements for transfer
students. My article, Fair and Efficient Placement of
Transferring Developmental Students: Evaluation of a Policy,
and my award-winning paper, Uses of Selected Critical
Thinking Tests with Developmental Freshmen, reported my research
results.

University
Service. My service to
Southeastern Louisiana University was highlighted by nine months as the
Interim Director of the Department of Developmental Education. As the Director,
I coordinated, supervised, and evaluated 22 faculty members. My service
also included the Institutional Review Board, the Sponsored Research and
Grants Committee, the College of Basic Studies Tenure and Promotion Guidelines
Committee, the University Scholarship Committee, and the Traffic and Parking
Committee.
